These are clear signs that achieving the SDGs with business-as-usual is just not possible, and that we urgently need to deploy integrated technological solutions at scale. To accelerate that process, it is imperative that companies, social and economic actors and policy makers join forces. With G-STIC, the Global Sustainable Technological and Innovation Community, we inspire them to work together, think outside the box and create win-win solutions that are good for the economy, for the environment and for the people.

G-STIC also urges them to look beyond technological innovation, exploring innovative approaches, laws, regulations and funding mechanism for upscaling and accelerating the deployment of market-ready technological solutions. That provides critical insights into the levers of change that are needed to market these transformative technologies at scale under different socio-economic and geopolitical conditions. In turn, this knowledge supports policy makers to develop Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) roadmaps for the SDGs and captains of industry to explore new business opportunities.

The G-STIC conference is hosted jointly by VITO (the prime research and technology organization on cleantech and sustainable development in Belgium) and 7 other not-for-profit independent technology research institutes: FIOCRUZ (Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Brazil), CSIR (The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, South Africa), GIEC (Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, China), GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, South Korea), NACETEM (National Centre for Technology Management, Nigeria), TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute, India) and SDSN (the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network).
